Frequently Asked Questions
Below are some of the most prevalent questions asked at Mechanical Engineering. Complete student FAQs can be found at the links to the right. Click a question to expand or collapse the answer.
How do I donate to the department?
Your gift has the greatest impact on the Department of Mechanical Engineering when you earmark it directly for the Department. We make it easy for you:
- You can give online,
- or by phone at 412-268-2021,
- or by regular mail to: Department of Mechanical Engineering, 426 Scaife Hall, Carnegie Mellon University, 5000 Forbes Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15213
Your annual gift can simply be designated 'Mechanical Engineering Development Fund." And please, don't forget about matching gifts – your employer may match your contribution to make your gift go even farther.
Donors who make major gifts (generally $50,000 and above) often choose to create lasting legacies by establishing or contributing to an endowed fund. Endowments are permanent assets that generate income to support a particular program or area specified by the donor. Please contact the Business Manager for more information.
How do I schedule a visit?
Corporate or Academic visitors may contact Kristi Berneberg (info below) in the main office with requests to visit faculty or the department head and she will forward your request to the appropriate people.
Prospective students should contact the university's Undergraduate Admissions office or to schedule a tour with a current junior or senior Mechanical Engineering student, please make arrangements at least one week prior to your scheduled admissions visit. Please note that "drop in" visitors cannot be accommodated. Please submit your request by email to mechmail@andrew.cmu.edu; be sure to include the date of your visit and options when you are available to meet. Evening and weekend appointments are not available. Normally our students will connect with you in the lobby of Scaife Hall.
