Visitor Requests-Mechanical Engineering - Carnegie Mellon University

Introduction

Visitors invited to join Mechanical Engineering department play an important role in the advancement and support of our research. In order to ensure the best possible experience for the visitor, the department, and the university, we must comply with National and University standards in order to protect all parties involved for the duration of the visit

Initiating the Request

Professors interested in inviting an International Scholar must complete and submit the fillable PDF found here. The form will automatically submit all necessary information to the department Foreign Scholar Coordinator, Kelsey Patsch (kpatsch@andrew.cmu.edu) who will remain the point of contact for the duration of the visa process.

Financial Considerations (CMU Supported External Visitors)

In choosing to host a foreign scholar, the Professor automatically assumes the responsibility of acting as a liaison to the university and lab to which the scholar is being invited. Financial considerations for the position are at the discretion of the hosting Professor and should be agreed-upon prior to the submission of the Online Invitation Form.

Invitation Package

Upon review and acceptance by the University Legal team and Department Head, the Invitation Package will be generated. Faculty members will be expected to work with the Foreign Scholar Coordinator and Assistant to the Department Head as-needed to assemble an invitation package that will include:

Invitation Letter

Visitor Agreement Form (Customized, non-negotiable university standards)

General University/Department Directory

Considerations

Visitors are expected to touch base with the Office of International Education and remain in contact throughout the duration of their visit. It is the responsibility of the visitor to attend mandatory check-ins and remain up-to-date on their personal immigration status.
