Scholarship Information
Information on Financial Aid is available at the HUB.
Students should check out the Fellowship and Scholarships Office on campus to review additional opportunities for external awards- including prestigious scholarships. The office staff in Warner Hall will provide advice and support with the application process.
In addition, occasionally the department receives information about scholarship opportunities- look for details about eligibility and application deadlines in specific email or in the "ME News", sent electronically throughout the year.
ME Study Abroad Fellowships Program
The goal of the program is to get more ME students interested in study abroad, and to reward talented students who have planned a study abroad experience that meshes well with their degree and career goals.
Award amount per awardee: $500
Application Due Date: May 15th for SUMMER & FALL applicants, December 15th for SPRING applicants
Applications to be emailed to Barbara J. Robbins.
Awards will only be given for academic study abroad experiences (where you go to another university to take courses). Experiences working abroad will not be supported by this program.
Applications will consist of:
1.) A one-page resume including
Your GPA cited near the top
Your current class (sophomore, junior, senior going for 5th yr., etc.)
The name of a ME faculty member who could serve as a good reference for you (if needed)
2.) A maximum 2 page 1.5 spaced 12 point times description of your planned study abroad experience with the following sections with separate headings. You can put anything you want under each heading, but we list some basics here:
I. Study Abroad Overview:
Where and when you are going, the university and department, proposed courses you will take, etc.
Do you have any plans outside of taking courses to make connections with your host country?
Anything else interesting about your planned experience?
II. Personal Degree and Career Goals:
What part of ME do you like the most? What kind of job are you interested in getting when you graduate? What courses are you taking or planning to take as an undergraduate to achieve this goal? Are you planning on going to graduate school? Are you participating in the International Engineering Minor?
III. How This Study Abroad Experience Furthers My Goals:
How the goals in item #2 will be enhanced by the study abroad program you describe in #1.
IV. Sharing My Experiences:
A statement that you are willing to share your experience with others.
We may want to highlight your experience on our web site, departmental newsletter, departmental display cases, etc., similar to what we have done for the ME Undergraduate Teaching Fellows program.
V. External Funding:
What expenses will you cover if you receive the $500 ME Study Abroad Fellowship?
Cite any other study abroad funding you either have in place or have applied for (indicate the status of the funding) and what it will be used for.
Applications will be evaluated based on the detailed plans that are presented and student credentials. We want to reward good students who have well-planned study abroad experiences linked to their career goals.
If you have questions about the program, email Barbara J. Robbins.
