Pittsburgh’s friendly atmosphere comes in part from people’s love of their own distinctive neighborhoods. Apartments can be found for $400–$600 per month, especially if sharing with a roommate. Here is some of what you can find easily accessible from Carnegie Mellon.

Where many students live:

  • Universities, bookstores, restaurants, clubs, the Carnegie Museums, and Schenley Park, explore Oakland.
  • Mix of bookstores, cafes, movies, restaurants, eclectic shops including fair trade goods and Judaica, and Frick Park, try Squirrel Hill.
  • Restaurants, bars, galleries, shopping, cafes, specialty foods, and Victorian architecture, see Shadyside.
  • Restaurants, cafes, bars, movies, body art, alternative art spaces, look at the South Side.
  • Bars, restaurants, coffeehouses, Italian specialty stores, check out Bloomfield.
