Journey into the Living Cell
Projecting the organic world of life in the cell onto the three-dimensional virtual-reality
space of a planetarium dome, using interactive, computer-driven multimedia technology --
this is
Journey into the Living Cell
, an outreach and K-12 education program developed by the
Center for Light Microscope Imaging and Biotechnology
with the
Carnegie Science Center
in Pittsburgh. The audience acts as research scientist, determining the path
of exploration and encountering struggles at the cellular level of life. "Journey," which
represents a collaboration among CLMIB biologists and computer scientists, artists at
CMU's Studio for Creative Inquiry and technical staff of the science center, includes
materials for classroom support.
