Logic and Discrete Math Programs Rank High in U.S. News & World Report

The department of mathematical sciences’ logic and discrete mathematics and operations research Ph.D. programs have been ranked among the top such specialty programs in the 2011 edition of U.S. News & World Report magazine's "America's Best Graduate Schools."  The magazine, which ranks science doctoral programs biennially, listed Carnegie Mellon University as being tied for 3rd in logic and 10th for discrete mathematics and combinations.  The programs were ranked 6th and 11th, respectively in 2009 edition.  The specialty rankings are based on nominations and rankings from department heads and program directors at peer institutions.
