Careers in Science Seminars

The Careers in Science seminar series is sponsored by the Department of Biolgogical Sciences. All seminars take place at 9:30 a.m. in the Conference Room, Mellon Institute.

Anita Srikameswaran - Science Writer for Pittsburgh Post Gazette

Anita Srikameswaran is a physician who earned both her undergraduate and medical degrees from University of Manitoba in Winnipeg. She did two years of postgraduate medical training, one of which was spent at the University of Toronto learning epidemiology, biostats, public health. She decided to go into science writing rather than be a general practitioner and earned a MS degree in journalism from the Medill School of Journalism, Northwestern University. She writes medical stories for the Pittsburgh Post Gazette.

Dr. Dannie King - President and CEO of a biotech company

Dr. Dannie King is currently president and CEO of the biotech company that Dr. Jon Jarvik (Biology faculty member at CMU) is starting. He has a Ph.D. in science. He worked for Burroughs Wellcome Company for 14 yrs, ending his service there as Associate Medical Director and Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases. He was instrumental in bringing 9 products to the marketplace. For 12 years following, he was CEO or COO of 5 biotech companies, including Oclassen Pharmaceuticals, Vical, Inc., Maxim Pharmaceuticals, Vyrex Corporation, and Genteric, Inc.
