Shaping the Tepper Quad groundbreaking event

In late 2015, shovel met dirt for the construction of Tepper Quad, thanks to a lead gift of $67 million from the charitable foundation of alumnus David Tepper. A groundbreaking event was to be held to both publicly recognize Tepper and other major donors and to celebrate the impact the new quadrangle would have on improving campus life.

To create the kind of national attention the event warranted, University Communications & Marketing, together with numerous other university offices, crafted an all-inclusive communications plan. The plan involved all areas of expertise from University Communications & Marketing, ranging from media relations and strategic partnerships to executive communications, video and photography.

With its warm recognition of key donors, extraordinary turnout at the public event, and an extraordinary live CNBC broadcast, the Tepper Groundbreaking became one of the memorable events in CMU history.

“Groundbreaking ceremony speaking program was perfectly timed. Right messages, right tone, right number of speakers, all around terrific.”

- Gina Casalegno, Vice President for Students Affairs and Dean of Students

“Well done! That was a spectacular day. Congratulations to you and your team.”

- Bryan Routledge, Associate Professor of Finance
