Mobile Device Security Presentations for IT Professionals

The following presentations are geared towards Carnegie Mellon University administrative and technical staff.  Join the Information Security Office at the University Center Connan room between 1:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., for a vibrant discussion around mobile device security with Dell, Symantec, a Cylab researcher, and the Office of General Council.

Welcome 1:30 p.m. - 1:45 p.m.
Mary Ann Blair, the Director of the Information Security Office, will welcome the speakers and attendees, and present the agenda.

1:45 p.m. -

2:00 p.m.

Rebecca Balebako, a researcher at Cylab, will discuss public policy efforts to create privacy notifications for smart phone apps, and the evaluation of usability of the final result.  Ms. Balebako will also cover ongoing research on app developer decisions and resources for privacy and security.
2:05 p.m. - 2:35 p.m.
Dell will present its work on Dell Mobility Solutions with emphasis on management, enablement, network infrastructure, and application development and deployment in a university setting.
Symantec 2:40 p.m. - 3:10 p.m.
BOYD, the latest buzzword. To users, they see their device as a tool for their converged personal and work life. For IT and security professionals, it's a conduit between data on the network that should be private and an open door to the entire world. Symantec will answer questions on how IT professionals can provide resources to the BYOD world, but keep data controlled and safe on the network.

4: 00 p.m.

The Information Security Office (ISO) will facilitate a session on the impact of mobile device adoption at CMU with a focus on bring your own device (BYOD). Legal considerations of BYOD, recommended safeguards, security monitoring, and incident management will be presented by the ISO and the Office of General Counsel followed by group discussion.
