Sponsor

  • Provost and the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education

Study Population

  • All instructional faculty

Administration Plan

  • The FSSE will be administered once each six years beginning in the spring of 2010 and will be paired with an administration of the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) the same spring.

Brief Description

  • The FSSE is designed to measure faculty expectations of student engagement in educational practices that are empirically linked with high levels of learning and development.  The survey also collects information about how faculty members spend their time related to professorial activities and the kinds of learning experiences their institution emphasizes.

Survey Results

  • The FSSE administration distributes a full report for Carnegie Mellon’s responses as well as the national results. In addition to the overall results, we will have the option to select up to five additional grouping variables.

Distribution Plan

  • The FSSE reports and the IR&A analyses will be available to the Carnegie Mellon community through an authenticated link at Research on Faculty and Staff.
