Invited Participants
  • Students enrolled as of March 1 in the distribution year
Administration Plan
  • Triennial web-only distribution beginning Spring 2005.
Brief Description
  • The EOY Undergraduate Survey assesses students’ perceptions of skills abilities and competencies (personal, intellectual, academic, social and artistic), students’ perceptions of campus culture and values, student satisfaction (with the university in general, academic-related issues, social experiences and activities, and services and facilities), and student engagement.
Relationship to Other Instruments
  • The student engagement section of the EOY Undergraduate survey contains a set of questions asking students how they spend their time.  These questions overlap with questions asked on the CIRP Freshman Survey.  This overlap allows us to observe differences in how our students allocated time in high-school vs. how they do so in college.

Culture and Climate questions on the EOY Undergraduate survey are included in the optional questions of the HERI Faculty Survey, the Staff Survey and the End of Year Graduate Student Survey.

Triennial distribution will allow for longitudinal study.  We plan to look at how responses change for individuals between their freshman year and senior year.

Survey Results
  • Each EOY undergraduate administration results in an institutional summary report of the responses.  Additionally, individual reports are generated for the colleges as well as for each of the schools within CFA.  Results are also available by gender, minority status and international status.  Departmental results are available on request.

Distribution Plan
  • All results are available to the entire Carnegie Mellon Community via an authenticated web link by Fall of the distribution year.

Results are typically shared in a variety of forums.  The 2005 results were shared in the following venues: Monthly Academic Department Heads Meeting, First & Second Year Councils, Noontime Lunch & Learn Session, University Lecture Series, University Education Council.
