All undergraduate students were invited by Student Health Services to participate in the NCHA. The NCHA is a national survey conducted annually which collects data about students' health habits, behaviors, and perceptions. Spring 2007 was the NCHA's seventh administration year and the pilot year of Carnegie Mellon's participation.
Institutions can use data collected in the NCHA to identify the most common health and behavior risks, design evidence-based health promotion programs, compare their students to national norms, and provide needs assessment data for campus and community task forces on sexual assault, alcohol use, and eating disorders. The data is also intended for faculty, students, campus media, and institutional researchers and university administration to learn more about the health behaviors and perceptions of students at their institution.
