Advising tips for International Relations & Politics students

Advising is essential to ensure that you are meeting all the requirements for graduation. We recommend that you visit with an advisor every semester during your studies. What can your advisor do for you?

  • Inform you of degree requirements for the majors and minors.
  • Help you develop strategies to improve your academic performance.
  • Assist you in making career choices.
  • Explain and refer you to campus and community services.
Whenever you have a question or problem, the academic advisor is a good place to start! What is your role in this process?
  • Please prepare for, and keep, your appointments.
  • See your advisor at least once a semester.
  • Develop plans for achieving academic, career, and personal goals.
  • Utilize the full range of campus resources.
Advising is a shared responsibility, but--remember--you are ultimately responsible for making decisions regarding academic, career, and personal goals.
