VISION, MISSION & VALUESOur Vision
Our Vision is the lifelong success of students as leaders of their own educational experience and growth, creators of innovative and complex approaches to learning, and responsible contributors in an interdisciplinary world.
Our Mission
The goal of the Bachelor of Science and Arts (BSA) and Bachelor of Humanities and Arts (BHA) Programs is to allow a select group of students who demonstrate interest and accomplishment in the fine arts and the humanities, social sciences or natural sciences to pursue both arenas of study through a self-designed interdisciplinary curriculum. To explore beyond the traditional academic major, or integrate more than one field of study across disciplines, students develop concentrations in both the College of Fine Arts and the Mellon College of Science or College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
These programs foster the creativity of students who explore innovative approaches to the academic environments of two colleges. Rather than follow the predetermined curriculum of a particular school or department, the students reach across boundaries to create their own unique educational careers. By merging the components in the arts and natural sciences or humanities into an interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary study, a unique, complex product is born which leads to the discovery of new information, questions and theory. BSA and BHA students are models of independence, motivation and well-rounded scholarship as humanists, scientists, and artists at the same time.
In the context of the Carnegie Mellon University environment, BSA and BHA holds a special role. It provides access to two strong colleges that offer specialized training with expert faculty and researchers. The challenge of the students is to utilize those resources to explore and develop their own concentrations or interdisciplinary studies in the fine arts and natural sciences or humanities.
Our Values
Artistic and Intellectual Excellence, Creativity and Innovation, Independence, Leadership, Community.
