Stephanie Murray did her graduate work at the University of Chicago, focusing on Early Modern English drama. Her dissertation, “Dead Reckoning: Knowing and Telling in Early Modern Revenge Tragedy and History Plays,” investigates strategies of epistemology and narrative in plays by Kyd, Marlowe, and Shakespeare. She’s especially fond of the most ridiculously bloody plays of the period, such as Titus Andronicus and The Revenger’s Tragedy; she highly recommends the film versions of both plays, as well.
She has taught courses on gender and culture in Early Modern literature, as well as introductions to cultural studies and literary theory. She has worked as a graduate liaison between undergraduate English majors and career placement resources, helping English majors see the practical applications of the skills they develop in the major. She also has experience working with interdisciplinary graduate students in planning course schedules and advising masters’ theses.
