HOW DO YOU HELP YOUNG MOTHERS RELAX IN THE MIDST OF THEIR HOME?
Beauty, health and wellness routines take a backseat for young mothers. The one activity where a young mother can find her Zen is during her daily showers: a calming escape in the midst of her home. While the market is filled with products for long bathing routines in the tub, there is a lack of luxurious products for shower routines. Students created a new product category of air care products after layers of research. Focus groups with young mothers revealed that they are pressed for time and seek convenience in the products they buy.
AN INVIGORATING SHOWER SPA CREATES A NEW PRODUCT CATEGORY
Identifying an untapped business opportunity for air care in the bathroom, students designed a shower spa. Made from natural essences to recreate a relaxing spa experience in the shower, the shower spa offers a quick but convenient way to pamper one’s senses in one of four rejuvenating scents. The scent is sprayed into the shower, and salts help to later dry the bathroom. Retailing a spa product and successive refills for reuse, students created a new product category that could attract 5 to 20 million new consumers. Considering reduced consumer waste challenge included in the problem brief, the components of the shower spa were chosen for easy recycling. The shower spa was designed with a sleek and unobtrusive aesthetic, balancing form and ease of use in the bathroom.
