Bio

I am the faculty director for the Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences Information Systems undergraduate degree program for the Pittsburgh and Doha, Qatar, campuses.  I regularly teach "Concepts in Information Systems" (freshman introductory course) and the junior and senior project courses.

My professional interests include software development methods, global project management, intelligent decision support systems, global IS education, IT for development, and IT and Sustainability.  My teaching combines these interests through special projects, course design and outreach activities.  I am particularly interested in novel applications of Information Systems and Information Technology in emerging problem domains of wide interest and societal impact, like sustainability and development.

During Spring Semester, 2013, I am co-teaching (with Professor Raja Sooriamurthi) a new course entitled 'Big Data and Sustainability', applying data analytics to complex decision problems in energy, carbon emissions and climate.

I am a member of the Association for Computing Machinery and the Association for Information Systems.
