We are pleased to announce that the Pittsburgh campus has upgraded to SMART Cards. These cards have replaced the current CMU ID Card. SMART Cards offer advanced technology that will provide Pittsburgh-campus students (expected to graduate after May 2014), and benefits-eligible staff and faculty with more efficient access to Port Authority Transit (PAT) within Allegheny County.
SMART Card Pick-Up
If you have not yet exchanged your ID Card for the new SMART Card, we ask that you visit The HUB (lower level of Warner Hall) as soon as possible to ensure that you are carrying the official identification card of Carnegie Mellon University. A current, active ID Card needs to be exchanged in order to receive a SMART Card.
- Beginning January 13, 2014, riders will be required to access PAT methods by tapping your SMART Card on the fare box reader.
- Through July 31, 2014, older style ID Cards that are not expired will be accepted on PAT methods.
- Beginning August 1, 2014, entry on PAT methods will be granted only with a valid, active SMART Card.
