You simply deposit money into your student account at The Carnegie Mellon Card Office and complete an application form.

How does it work?

We record the amount of your deposit in your student account and in the Plaid Ca$h system under your Card ID number. Your Card ID number is enclosed on the magnetic strip on the back of your Carnegie Mellon ID+ Card.

How do I use it?

To use your Plaid Ca$h account, you present your ID+ Card, rather than cash, to the cashier at any location Plaid Ca$h is accepted. The amount of money you have left in your account is shown after every transaction, so you will always know your balance. There is plenty of notice if the account runs low, and it is easy to make another deposit. If you would like an itemized statement, you may request one and it will be available in The Carnegie Mellon Card Office within 3-4 business days. At the end of the academic year, you may request a refund of the remaining balance if it is over $5. Else, you may simply leave it there until the following year.
