REGISTRATION

Registration Week begins in accordance with the dates provided on the Official Academic Calendar. There are assigned start times for students using On-Line Registration to register for courses. The time assignments are based upon the last two digits of your Student ID Number (SID).

To find your assigned registration start-time, first determine which day you are eligible to register. Then, locate the last two digits of your Student ID Number in the right column. In the left column, you will find your registration start-time. You may register anytime after your assigned start-time.

Graduate students and non-degree students do not have start-times. Graduate students may register anytime after 6:00 a.m. on the Monday of registration week. Non-Degree Students must first complete a Non-Degree Student Registration Form and submit it to The HUB.

OVERLOADING

The University is committed to insuring that each degree candidate has access to a normal course load before it permits other students to register for a greater than normal number of units. A normal course load has been established by each academic department. Students should check with their academic advisor, department head, or dean’s office for the definition of a normal course load. Individual colleges may have overload policies that are more restrictive, therefore students should consult with their advisor when considering an overload.

Once registration week has ended, students may register for an overload up to 12 units in accordance with their department's overload policy. Such policy typically demands that they have demonstrated their ability to successfully complete a normal course load. Successful completion of a normal course load is defined as having earned at least a 3.00 (3.50 for students in ECE) cumulative QPA through the preceding semester or at least a 3.00 (3.50 for students in ECE) semester QPA in the current semester (in which case all final grades must be recorded before the student can register for the overloaded class). Overloads greater than 12 units or other exceptions must have the approval of the student’s Associate Dean. Freshmen and transfer students are limited to a normal course load in their first semester of attendance.

COURSE AUDITING

Auditing is taking a course without receiving a grade or academic credit. Your level of participation is set by the instructor.

To audit a course, you must first register for the course and then submit a Course Audit Approval Form, complete with your advisor's signature and the signature of the course instructor, to The HUB.

Once you submit the Course Audit Approval Form, you may not receive a grade for the course.

Any full-time student may audit a course without additional tuition charges. If a part-time student is allowed to audit a course, they will be assessed tuition for the course at the standard per-unit rate.

MINI COURSES

Mini courses last one-half of a semester. The first mini course in a semester starts on the first day of classes and ends at midsemester. The second mini course starts at midsemester and ends on the last day of classes. Mini courses are designated in the schedule of classes, and the word "mini" will appear under the "Lec/Sec" column.
