Placement Exams

Before you begin thinking about placement exams, you should have:

* Set up your Andrew Account

* Completed the survey on SurveyMonkey

Why are placement exams important?

Some courses, like languages or mathematics, are taken at various levels. In the best circumstance, you will begin such a series of courses in a level that is challenging but that with hard work can result in an A or a B final grade.  Placement tests help to place you in that "best circumstance."

Do I need to take all the exams?

Not necessarily. Review the page for each exam (Calculus, Computer Programming, English, Modern Language) to see if the exam applies to you.

How do I get my results?

You will see your English and Computer Programming results on Blackboard, the website you'll long into to take the exams. You will be emailed at your Andrew account with your Calculus and upper-level Language placements. Elementary and Intermediate level Language placements will be revealed at the end of the placement exam.

Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate

You can review the Carnegie Mellon equivalencies for AP (.pdf) and IB (.pdf) exams in their respective charts. The use of possible credit is then further discussed in the Making Your Schedule pages.
