Thomas F. O'Boyle is a writer, teacher and media executive who has worked in newspaper publishing for more than three decades.

A former staff writer, foreign correspondent and editor for The Wall Street Journal, he has worked since 1994 for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette as assistant managing editor in the newsroom and, for the last decade, on the paper’s business side.  He is currently a senior executive in charge of audience development for print and digital products. In this capacity, he has run many initiatives to broaden the Post-Gazette’s audience reach in emerging digital platforms.

He was supervising editor of a project for which the Post-Gazette was awarded a Pulitzer Prize in 1998. His writing for the Post-Gazette can be accessed at www.post-gazette.com.

Mr. O’Boyle is the author of At Any Cost: Jack Welch, General Electric, and the Pursuit of Profit, which was published in 1998 by Alfred Knopf. Translated into four languages, the book was twice issued by Vintage in paperback editions. It was named one of the year’s best books by The Philadelphia Inquirer, which called it “monumental … should be mandatory reading for all CEOs and anyone concerned with business ethics.”

Mr. O’Boyle teaches advanced journalism classes on new digital media and non-fiction writing at Carnegie Mellon. He is a graduate of Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania, where he received a Bachelor’s degree; and Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, where he received a Master’s degree from the Medill School of Journalism.
