Susan Hagan Accepts Position at CMU Qatar

Susan Hagan has accepted the position of Assistant Teaching Professor at CMU's Qatar campus, where she will begin teaching in fall 2011.

Susan completed an MDes in Communication Planning and Information Design in our joint English/Design program and also received a Ph.D. in Rhetoric from CMU in 2003. Her dissertation was entitled "Visual/Verbal Meaning Collaboration: A Framework for the Study of Communication Design." In 2007, Susan published an article from her dissertation in the journal Written Communication and received the 2008 NCTE Award for Best Article on Philosophy or Theory of Technical or Scientific Communication. 

Susan has taught on the Pittsburgh campus for many years, first as a PhD student­, then as a post-doctoral fellow, and most recently as an adjunct. In 2004, she won the Humanities & Social Sciences Graduate Student Teaching Award for her innovation in teaching and course development. In 2010, Susan was honored with a Role Model Award from CMU's fraternity and sorority community.
