English Professor Barbara Johnstone To Give Keynote Presentation at Linguistic Society of America’s Annual Meeting English Professor Barbara Johnstone, who focuses on the areas of rhetoric, linguistics, and critical theory, will be giving a keynote presentation at the Linguistic Society of America’s (LSA) 85th Annual Meeting. Her presentation, entitled “Speaking Pittsburghese: The Social History of Pittsburgh Speech,” will examine the special characteristics of Pittsburgh speech and how Pittsburghese became identified as a dialect in the second half of the 20th century.
