First-Year Writing Instructor Dan Markowicz Brings Expert on Urban Food Production to the Classroom

This semester, Dan Markowicz worked to bring practical experience to the classroom in his section of 76101, Interpretation and Argument. He is teaching a section on agriculture and the politics of sustainability, which resonates with the urban gardening community here in Pittsburgh.

Dan recently invited Joshua Burnett, Director of Educational Programming at Grow Pittsburgh, to speak to his class on efforts to promote urban food production in local neighborhoods. Students learned about how the ideas and issues in their course are applied, while also having a glimpse of opportunities for community involvement in our city.
