Prospective Students
Visting Campus
Applicants tell us that visiting campus is often a crucial factor in their decision to apply to our program and accept an admission offer, so we encourage potential applicants to consider doing so. Of course, a visit to campus is not a necessary requirement for your applying to the program, but it can be frequently be helpful as there's only so much that can be conveyed via a web presence. If you're able to come to Pittsburgh, we're happy to set up a visit that can include meeting with the Director of the MAPW program and other program faculty, sitting in on classes, and having time to meet and talk with current students and get their perspective on the program. Monday through Thursday is best for visiting as relatively few classes meet on Fridays.
Many potential applicants do visit before applying, but we also invite all students accepted into the program to visit us for 2 days in the spring between the time that acceptances go out and we expect to get their replies to our offers. This generally takes place in late March or early April and involves a Thursday for sitting in on classes and a Friday for meeting with faculty and students, including those considering all of our graduate programs. This visit is a good opportunity to learn about us (or learn more about us) and also to meet your potential fellow classmates.
Contacting Us
We've tried to capture a sense of our program on this website but realize that there is only so much that a web presence can convey. Please do explore our website and consider joining our community of professional writers at Carnegie Mellon. If you have questions or interests the website doesn't address, or if you would like to arrange a campus visit, please contact us. We are always happy to talk about what we do and how it might fit your plans for the future.
