Heinz Accelerated Master's Programs

A variety of accelerated Master's Degree programs at Heinz are available to EHPP students. These programs allow students to complete their BA/BS in EHPP while simultaneously enrolled in a graduate degree program. Eligibility

  • Carnegie Mellon undergraduate students from any major with a strong academic background and most of their undergraduate requirements completed
  • Students apply in junior year of study and are eligible to enroll in senior year

Standard Application Materials: 

  • Application Deadline: Tuesday, January 10th, 11:55pm
  • Completed application form.  Apply online at: https://app.applyyourself.com/?id=cmu-spp
  • 3 letters of recommendation
    • 2 or 3 letters from CMU faculty
    • 1 of the letters may be from a professional contact - i.e. internship supervisor, hourly position supervisor
  • Official Carnegie Mellon transcript must be provided to the Heinz College. (You must request this through the HUB) AND, if applicable, official transcript from all colleges or universities attended, regardless of whether credit or degree was obtained.
  • An essay describing your interest in this field and how your experience and proposed study will help you reach your career goals
  • A current resume with your education information, work experience (including internships and hourly positions) and extracurricular information
  • GRE/GMAT (requirement waived for AMP applicants with a G.P.A. greater than 3.0)

  • Completed Undergraduate Course Requirements form with advisor's signature
  • Interviews are required.  You must Contact the Admissions Office by phone to schedule your interview. Schedule as soon as possible.  (Please plan to have your interview completed by December 16th - schedule ahead!)  Call 412.268.2164

Financial Aid

  • Undergraduate students do not qualify for MSPPM financial aid
  • Students ­will qualify for aid in the final two semesters of the MSPPM- AMP (after having completed a Bachelor's degree)

Degree Requirements

  • 198 units are required to complete the MSPPM program
  • Up to 48 units of undergraduate classes can be transferred while enrolled in the MSPPM program (first year) and are counted toward the required 198 units*
  • All of the undergraduate courses should be upper division, and should be relevant to the content of the Heinz College degree.  Only undergraduate courses with a grade of B or better may be counted toward the Heinz College degree.
  • 150 units of MSPPM coursework remains to be completed
  • Prerequisite coursework in pre-calculus and statistics must be successfully completed prior to enrolling in the program.  Prerequisite course grades should be a "B" or higher.
  • Summer internship required

Benefits

  • You will complete two semesters of coursework as an integrated undergraduate-graduate student before graduating with a Bachelor's degree in May
  • You will be able to complete an internship in the summer following your senior year
  • Completing your internship prior to starting the final two semesters will allow you to have more work experience to discuss with recruiters visiting campus during the fall semester
  • You will be eligible for MSPPM financial aid in the final two semesters of the program (after having completed a Bachelor's degree)
  • You may be able to exempt certain Heinz courses with units earned in undergraduate coursework which would give you more flexibility in course selection.  The undergraduate courses that qualify you to exempt a Heinz course are reviewed each academic year.
