CAPS-Academic Advisory Center (AAC) - Carnegie Mellon University

Counseling

Students go to the counseling center for many different reasons.  After meeting with a CAPS therapist, students are referred to the appropriate mental health resources at Carnegie Mellon or in the larger Pittsburgh community, depending on the necessary level of care. Short-Term Psychotherapy and Supplemental Psychiatric Care

Individual therapy sessions offer the opportunity to explore issues of concern in a safe, confidential setting with a trained professional. Students seen for short-term psychotherapy at the counseling center may also be eligible to meet with one of their consulting psychiatrists to be evaluated for medication.  Students requiring longer-term psychotherapy or psychiatric care are referred to professionals in the local community.

Appointments can be made in person or by calling 412-268-2922 during regular office hours. For emergencies, their phone is answered 24/7 (see “Crisis Support”).
