Recruiting Staff

Recruiting a diverse set of candidates is a vital part of the staffing process and now that you have identified a need in your department, it's time to find the right person to complement your group. Recruiting is more than placing your vacancy on the job posting system.  It's identifying a diverse set of people that have various strengths, backgrounds, experiences, and talents that can expand on the competencies of your group.  In order to recruit a candidate pool for the challenging work at Carnegie Mellon you will need to:

  • Reach out to active and passive job seekers
  • Attract a diverse set of potential applicants
  • Screen individuals to ensure you are following up with the best candidates

Remember that all recruiting should be tailored to the job and applicant.  The benefits that attract an unmarried young woman may not be what a married man with young children will be most interested in.  Drawing someone to Pittsburgh is a different task that asking someone to join our locations in Silicon Valley.  The applicants interested in a position in Qatar may be very different from one seeking a position locally.  Be sure to get to know the needs of your top recruits and sell them on the features and benefits of working at a world-renowned institution.
