Processing the Appointment in the Human Resources Employee Module (HREM)
Every new Carnegie Mellon employee must be entered into the Human Resources Employee Module (HREM) prior to his or her start date. This includes all university-paid faculty, staff, and student employees (graduate and undergraduate), as well as courtesy employees.
An employee’s HREM record consists of his or her appointment particulars and demographic information. Data integrity is extremely important, as the data in HREM is used by many entities throughout campus:
- Human Resources: employee orientation, benefits enrollment, campus directories
- ADP (Automatic Data Processing): paycheck processing
- Payroll: W-2 mailing
- Other Purposes: parking permits, university ID+ card, campus mailings
