Background and Reference Checking

Before making a final offer of employment, you should obtain references on the candidate. Make sure you follow the Reference Guidelines (.pdf) when contacting references.

  • Assistance with International Reference Checking also available through GlobalPittsburgh.org. Please contact your HR Manager for details.
  • Act 33 of 1985, Amendments to Child Protective Services Law, requires child care services to obtain reports of child abuse and criminal history record (.pdf) information for prospective employees.
  • If the person is being hired into a position in which operating a motor vehicle is an essential job function, review the Driver's License protocols.

Contact your HR Manager for guidance on positions which require a background check or pre-employment drug and alcohol testing in addition to employment references.
