JUNE 2009 - eLearning with ManageMentor
In order to better meet the training needs of our employees, Human Resources’ Learning & Development Group has undertaken a new eLearning initiative: Harvard Business Publishing’s ManageMentor eLearning program. This online program provides fast access to information and performance support for the day-to-day responsibilities of managers and leaders. The program is especially helpful for those who are not located near Pittsburgh or who are unable to attend our classroom sessions.
On July 1, Learning & Development will roll out a new year of the ManageMentor eLearning resource. For a modest $50 license fee, each user has unlimited access to ManageMentor’s full library of interactive management courses. The ManageMentor program allows you to work independently, at your own pace, to develop practical skills and improve your performance as a leader. Its high-quality management content draws from foremost practitioners, renowned experts, and business leaders.
The ManageMentor eLearning program helps users build skills quickly with practical advice, downloadable tools, and time-saving tips on key management topics. The program is a great resource for those strapped for time and looking for quick, instantly applicable training in specific areas. ManageMentor can also be used to address multiple training needs at a fraction of the cost of other training programs.
How does the eLearning program work?
The ManageMentor eLearning program consists of 42 modules, each designed to strengthen a specific leadership skill. Modules are arranged by topical categories to address daily business issues, including Business Essentials, Finance, Leadership, Personal Development, Strategy, and Workplace Issues.
The modules use rich media to engage the user, with 200+ interactive activities, 350 video elements, and 125 compelling short video stories that offer real-world perspectives from leading global executives. All materials are downloadable for offline use. If you prefer, you can also print entire modules or download audio from each topic to your mobile device.
Modules stress easy accessibility and immediate impact. Each module takes from one to two hours to complete, and includes the following:
- an in-depth introduction to the topic;
- practice scenarios;
- applied learning tools, such as worksheets, checklists, and planning forms;
- two full-length articles from various Harvard Business publications; and
- links to additional resources on the topic.
Who would benefit from the ManageMentor Program?
While managers and leaders at all levels would benefit from the program, it is best suited to new managers who would like to cover many essentials in a short time or in self-paced intervals. Supervisors might also consider purchasing a program license for a fast-track employee who shows leadership potential, in order to prepare the individual for a future role as a manager.
The ManageMentor Program and Employee Development
As you complete the Performance Review process for 2009, it’s time to shift the focus from the appraisal itself to goal-setting and development. The ManageMentor eLearning program is the perfect tool for employee growth: it offers quality information at a price to fit most budgets, and its content is broken down into specific, easily-digestible modules for quick study and instant application.
The program includes modules to address the full gamut of developmental needs, from the broad areas of goal setting and career development to the specifics of customer focus, time management, writing skills, and process improvement. Employees can pick and choose modules to meet developmental goals; supervisors may also assign modules to their employees as part of a comprehensive development plan. To get you started, Learning & Development has created some sample paths to eLearning with the ManageMentor program, each tailored to a specific development need.
