Time Away From the Office
(Paid Time Off, Disabilities and Leaves of Absence)
Carnegie Mellon respects the balance that all faculty and staff seek to achieve between their professional and private lives. From taking care of yourself or a child when you acquire a minor illness to coping with a disabling condition, you may have a variety of reasons for needing to be out of the office.
Carnegie Mellon provides several types of benefits to accommodate your needs to take time off, including:
- Paid time off (sick, vacation, personal time off)
- Official and Floating Holidays
- Short and Long Term Disability
- Worker's Compensation
- Leaves of Absence (including Family and Medical Leave, Bereavement, Jury Duty, and other leaves)
The eligibility requirements and compensation/benefits for each type of leave differs. In all cases, faculty and staff should notify their manager and seek approval for time away from the office with as much advance notice as possible.
