Carnegie Mellon offers medical coverage for benefits-eligible retired employees and their spouses. (A surviving spouse/partner of a retiree who was receiving coverage under the terms below may continue coverage under the same terms as if the retiree had not died.)

Coverage through COBRA by paying the COBRA rate until age 65 for retiree, spouse and dependent children
65 +
Medical and Prescription Benefits coverage for retiree and spouse at the rates specified. Options include:
Major Medical and Supplemental Prescription (covers the gap) coverage (requires separate purchase of a medigap plan and a Medicare Part D prescription plan)
Please note that rates differ for those with those with 15 or more years of service at the University and those with fewer years of service at Carnegie Mellon.
You are also eligible to participate in Carnegie Mellon’s active employee health plans through COBRA for up to 18 months. However, participation in our plans through COBRA is not considered participation in a group health plan (aka – credible coverage) for the purposes of avoiding the penalty for late enrollment in Medicare.
