Plan Your Time at CMU
A competitive applicant to health professions schools is more than just a GPA or a test score. Applications, whether they are for dental schools or veterinary schools, are judged using a very holistic process. Make no mistake—GPA, test scores and success in courses are all very important. But what you’ve done outside the classroom is equally valuable. To what extent have you explored your intended health profession through shadowing, volunteering and community service? Have you had interactions with patients and health professionals? Have you developed interpersonal skills and leadership potential? These are all experiences that can, and should, be thoughtfully planned and executed as part of your education at Carnegie Mellon. Your HPP advisor is here to help you figure out what you want to do and what it will take to make it happen.
