Shipping and Storage
Carnegie Mellon's Post Office will begin accepting student packages mid-August — check with the Postal Services website for the specific date. Space limitations impede their ability to receive packages any earlier, so please make sure that your packages do not arrive prior to this date. If this occurs, packages may be returned to sender. The Package Pick-Up window will be open on Opening day and times will be posted on the Postal Services website.
All campus housing residents are assigned a Student Mail Code (SMC) by the Post Office. You can view your SMC address in the "My Info" section of the Student Information Online (SIO.) Information about obtaining your SMC combination is available through the Post Office.

“Student Name” in the shipping address should match the name on your photo ID. (After your SMC is assigned, all future deliveries should include your name and your SMC.)
You may begin to ship items for receipt at Carnegie Mellon Postal Services within two weeks of your arrival on campus. For most incoming students, this two-week threshold begins Friday, August 5, 2016. Your shipped items will be handled carefully and stored securely in our facility until you arrive on campus to claim them.
Once your SMC and post office box have been issued, you will be able to view your box number and combination within Student Information Online (SIO) (www.cmu.edu/hub/sio); therefore, we recommend that you check SIO frequently over the next few weeks.
