Update on Campus Incident

Following is an update regarding an incident on campus that was reported in the media yesterday.

To recap, a report of a suspicious-looking item in the back of a vehicle caused concern and city and campus police were notified. Forbes Avenue and areas around Smith Hall, the Collaborative Innovation Center and Newell-Simon Hall were contained to ensure the security of students, faculty and staff. Local authorities quickly examined the item and found it posed no threat.

While activity on our campus raised alarm yesterday, it's important to know that university and local authorities responded immediately and took every precaution to ensure the safety and security of students, faculty, staff and the neighboring community. Carnegie Mellon's emergency response team acted without delay.

Carnegie Mellon's students, their parents and families, faculty, staff and alumni should be aware that the university's emergency services team meets regularly to review and practice crisis response.
