Great American Smokeout: November 17

November 17 marks the American Cancer Society Great American Smokeout.  Smokers across the U.S. will use the date to make a plan to quit, or to plan in advance and quit smoking that day. By doing so, smokers will be taking an important step towards a healthier life – one that can lead to reducing cancer risk.

Tobacco use remains the single largest preventable cause of disease and premature death in the U.S., yet more than 46 million Americans still smoke. However, more than half of these smokers have attempted to quit for at least one day in the past year.

Quitting is hard, but you can increase your chances of success with help.  If you're ready to quit, or getting ready to get ready to quit, don't do it alone!

Join the FREE quit smoking group program for CMU community members.  Through a series of quit smoking sessions, get tips for becoming and staying smoke-free. Explore your reasons and triggers for smoking, barriers to quitting, as well as ideas, plans and support  for success at becoming a non-smoker. Tobacco Free Allegheny can also provide nicotine replacement therapy, including gum, patches, and lozenges for interested participants.
