Recycling Metal, Wood, and Other Objects
Scrap Metal
If you have scrap metal to be picked up contact FMS and put in a
work order to schedule a pick up.
If you have metal you wish to drop off, there is a scrap metal dumpster
located behind the Facilities Management Building. All refrigerants
or coolants must be removed by FMS prior to recycling for scrap. If
you have a large item that needs to be recycled contact Barbara
Kviz.
Items we take for scrap include ac units, refrigerators, metal desks,
shelves, chairs, building materials, lab equipment, fax machines,
printer & copy machines, motors, pumps
valves and pipes.
Wood Pallets
If you have items delivered on wood pallets, ask the supplier to please take the pallets back after the delivery has been made. If such an arrangement is not feasible, you can electronically fill out an FMS work order form to have pallets picked up.
Transparencies
Send transparencies through campus mail in envelopes to Recycling

While many items are not currently recycled by Carnegie Mellon, other
organizations exist in and around Pittsburgh that will take many items.
The Allegheny County
Health Department has collected information on how and where to
recycle most items.

Health Department of area recycling sites for all materials you might
have.
