Tips for Reducing Energy Usage

  • 'Sleep is Good' Program (see below)
  • Turn off electronic equipment and lights when not in use
  • Make an effort to purchase Energy Star Products.  For more information on Energy Star Products, visit this website: Government Energy Star Information
  • Perform an annual energy and environmental audit
  • Unplug items not being used (cell phone chargers, appliances, etc).  Even though these items are not being used, they still draw electricity when plugged in
  • Install energy efficient lights and fans to re-circulate heated or cooled air

Sleep is Good Program

This is a Green Practices Initiative that is a simple way to save energy in one minute!

Our goal is to save 2 million kilowatt-hours (roughly $130,000 per year) through improved computer monitor management.

Reducing this amount of energy is equivalent to:

  • Energy used by 1,150 U.S. households per month
  • CO2 reductions equal to preventing emissions from 140 cars
  • Planting 10 million square feet of trees
