Working to Improve Teaching in Pennsylvania

91 teachers completed over 6,440 Act 48 approved professional development hours through programs that were developed and implemented by Carnegie Mellon departments in the last several months. Most of the programs focus on content deepening that will lead to more effective classroom teaching, and include work that extends over multiple days or weeks. The programs are offered by a number of colleges and departments on campus. Recent activities include Computation and Science Teaching (Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center), Computer Science for High School (Computer Science), Research Experiences for Teachers (Robotics Academy at NREC), C-MITES Teacher Programs, Robotics and Computer Science Awareness Program (Gelfand Center) and the Lesson Planning Project (Psychology) and programs for teachers at the Cyert Center for Early Education and the Children’s School.
