- Lave is considered one of the nation's top energy economists, and is a leading researcher and consultant on issues of energy policy and risk management.
- He has been a member of the Environmental Protection Agency's Science Advisory Board since 1986.
- He raised some eyebrows in 2008 when he suggested that gas prices should be raised to $7 a gallon to reduce oil consumption.
