Outside Resources

For a thorough search of funding and educational opportunities, it is worthwhile to look through scholarship databases.

Be persistent and creative in your scholarship search:

  • Ask around in your department (other students, staff, and faculty).
  • Use reference books at the library or visit the career center.
  • Contact your local chamber of commerce or other foundations, businesses, and organizations in your hometown.
  • Find out if any of the societies or associations you belong to offer scholarships, fellowships, and other types of educational competitions.
  • Do your own search on Google or other search engines.
  • Remember to regularly check news and announcements, new scholarships, and upcoming deadlines.
  • If you choose to use scholarship search services, do not pay a fee if one is required. Also, it is advisable to use an alternate email account with the scholarship-find services.
  • Visit Carnegie Mellon's Financial Aid Office for information on funding opportunities offered through the university.
