Federal Entrance & Exit Counseling

Entrance Counseling

All Federal Direct Loan first-time borrowers are required to complete an online entrance counseling session. The entrance counseling session provides information about borrower rights and responsibilities.  After reading the information, the student will be quizzed on their knowledge.

Carnegie Mellon will be notified when a student has completed online entrance counseling.  Funds will not be disbursed until the entrance counseling session has been completed.

If you completed a Federal Entrance Counseling session while at Carnegie Mellon, you do not have to complete one for 2012-2013.

First-time Federal Perkins Loan borrowers are required to complete a separate entrance counseling session on the Educational Computer Systems, Inc. (ECSI) website. ECSI is Carnegie Mellon's Perkins Loan servicer. You will be notified by The HUB during Summer 2012 if you are required to complete this counseling session.

Exit Counseling

Upon ceasing enrollment and prior to beginning repayment, Federal Direct Subsidized, Unsubsidized and PLUS Loan borrowers are required to complete an online exit counseling session.  The session provides information about borrower rights and responsibilities regarding loan repayment. This exit counseling session meets the exit requirement for both prior FFELP and current Direct Loan borrowers. Complete an exit counseling session now.

Perkins Loan borrowers are required to complete a separate exit counseling session on the Educational Computer Systems, Inc. (ECSI) website. ECSI is Carnegie Mellon's Perkins Loan servicer.

Students do not need to notify Carnegie Mellon upon completion of their exit counseling requirement, but are welcome to contact The HUB with any follow-up questions.
