President Obama Addresses U.S. from Carnegie Mellon University

President Barack Obama launched a major manufacturing initiative today from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh — watch video of the event below. (Read the White House transcript, or read the full story on www.cmu.edu.)

The initiative — the Advanced Manufacturing Partnership (AMP) — brings together major U.S. manufacturers and top U.S. universities.

At launch, CMU is one of only six universities at the table.

The visit took place at CMU's National Robotics Engineering Center (NREC), where he saw a range of cutting-edge technologies. (Read Associated Press article on CMU's Robotics Institute, of which NREC is a key player.)

The visit came on the heels of CMU's recently launched Greenlighting Startups — an initiative aimed at accelerating the university's already impressive record of turning campus innovations into sustainable new businesses.

This was President Obama's third trip to the university.
