Many of the decisions we make have an impact on our environment. We can imagine how chemicals can contaminate a nearby water source. However, it's important to consider the actions we perform on a daily basis, in our jobs and personal lives, and evaluate how they might directly or indirectly affect our environment. For example, are digital means of correspondence utilized, reducing the consumption of paper? Are recyclable materials used when communicating in print? These decisions may seem insignificant when considering a single person's role in affecting the environment. However, we lead and learn by example. Therefore, it is important for us to understand how our actions impact the environment and communicate our beliefs to others. In the process of learning how each of us can positively affect the world around us, we may discover ways of encouraging specific audiences to take responsibility for the environment through their own actions. We may also find unforeseen opportunities in the use of materials. For example, when seeking methods for reducing paper consumption we may discover new ways of utilizing digital media. By learning continually, thinking creatively and collaboratively, and acting responsibly, we can make a positive impact on all the parts of our environment --the people, animals, plants, etc.-- that will be evident today and for years to come.
