Early Action
Students in the 2010 AP/EA program have the unique option to apply for admission in fall 2011 under the Early Action application plan. Early Action allows students to apply by September 1, 2010 and receive an admission decision by October. Early Action is non-binding; meaning that students admitted to Carnegie Mellon under Early Action are not obligated to accept the offer of admission or to submit a deposit prior to May 1, 2011, and may also apply to other colleges. Early Action is available only to students who attend the AP/EA program prior to fall of their senior year.
To be considered for Early Action, you must take two courses of 9 units or more. You must submit the Common Application and Carnegie Mellon Common Application Supplement by September 1, 2010 and all supporting documentation by September 15, 2010.
Students who apply Early Action and are not accepted will not have their application reviewed again for admission under any other decision plan. Therefore it is vital that students have taken the required standardized testing, including both the SAT Reasoning Test or ACT and SAT Subject Tests, and are confident with their academic performance junior year as the admission office will make an admission decision prior to the release of any senior year grades. Early Action may not be the best application plan for every student. If Carnegie Mellon is your first choice university, we encourage you to consider Early Decision and not Early Action.
All students who are considering Early Action are strongly encouraged to arrange an interview with the Office of Admission. It is important that you make an appointment at the start of the program as the interview schedule fills very quickly.
Students admitted to Carnegie Mellon under Early Action will still receive consideration for merit scholarships and may apply for need-based financial assistance if either a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. If you're accepted through Early Action, you will have until May 1, 2010 to submit your enrollment deposit of $800.
