Students may want to bring some spending money for the weekend, which also varies from student to student. Some weekend trips and events include a ticket price not included in the cost of the Pre-College program. Students normally find that $350-$450 is a comfortable amount of spending money.
How much spending money do you recommend for the program?
We suggest that students deposit $350-$450 in Plaid Ca$h for spending money. This allows students to participate in the weekend trips and activities throughout the program which are not included in the program fee, purchase any items they may realize they need once they arrive, and order an occasional pizza.
Spending money can be in the form of traveler's checks, accessible through ATM cards, or money can be deposited into a Plaid Ca$h account for use at approved campus and community vendors. The Plaid Ca$h program allows families to put money on their student's ID card for use at a wide variety of campus and local vendors who participate in the Plaid Ca$h program. This is a convenient way for students to regulate their spending and avoid carrying cash, but keep in mind that unused money on a Plaid Ca$h card cannot be refunded. Please visit www.carnegiemelloncard.com for more details about this program and a list of participating vendors.
