Air Force ROTC
Two- and three-year scholarships are available to qualified freshmen and sophomores who join the Air Force ROTC program. Scholarships range from $15,000 to full tuition, plus $510 for books, and monthly tax-free allowances that may increase each academic year (seniors receive $400 per month). Students are required to attend AFROTC courses, which are described in the undergraduate catalog under Aerospace Studies and will enjoy exciting, good paying, career opportunities upon graduation in the world's finest Air Force.

Army ROTC
Army ROTC scholarships can provide generous financial assistance. The Army offers two-, three- and four-year scholarships to qualified students. These scholarships are based on student merit and not parent income. There is no obligation incurred for any freshmen students. To become eligible for a scholarship, some of the criteria are as follows: be a U.S. citizen, have a minimum SAT score of 920, be in good physical health and be a full-time student. Naval-Marine Corps ROTC
The NROTC offers two-, three- and four-year scholarships based on competitive national selection. While on a Naval scholarship the student will receive the following benefits: the Navy will pay 80 to 100 percent of tuition, a textbook stipend of $500 per year, a monthly stipend starting at $250 per month thier freshman year and increaseing to $400 per month by their senior year, and full active-duty pay and benefits while on summer training cruises.

Special scholarships are available to minority students and students who are interested in careers as nuclear power officers. These special scholarships are available to students who have completed at least one term of academic college course work.

Scholarship Program

The Andrew Carnegie Scholarship, which is worth at least half the cost of tuition, is designed to recognize outstanding academic/artistic personal achievements without regard to your family's financial need. Each year, Andrew Carnegie Merit Scholars enter our freshman class students, enrolling in engineering, the fine arts, the liberal arts, the sciences, computer science and business. If you're selected and maintain an outstanding academic record, you'll continue to receive the award through your four years of undergraduate education at Carnegie Mellon. Winners will be notified in their letter of admission.

To be considered for this award you must:
  • be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
     
  • complete and submit the Carnegie Mellon application for admission by the appropriate deadline
     
  • exhibit excellence in academic and/or artistic achievement
     
  • receive exemplary recommendations from teachers and counselors enhance your school or local community through personal involvement
  • demonstrate an impressive sense of personal integrity
  • not be a son/daughter of a Carnegie Mellon employee who is eligible for remission of tuition

    Carnegie Mellon Academic Scholarship Program
    Carnegie Mellon recognizes outstanding academic performance by awarding Carnegie Mellon University Scholarships to students enrolling in engineering, the fine arts, the liberal arts, the sciences, computer science and business. This scholarship is granted without regard to your family's financial need, these scholarships are worth at least half the cost of undergraduate tuition for four years. Winners are selected from a group of finalists who meet the criteria listed below and will be notified in their letters of admission.
    To be considered for a Carnegie Mellon University Scholarship, you must:
  • be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • apply for freshman admission by the appropriate deadline
  • be offered admission to the freshman class entering in the fall of 2005
  • enhance your school or community through personal involvement
     
  • demonstrate a strong sense of personal integrity
  • not be a son/daughter of a Carnegie Mellon employee who is eligible for remission of tuition


    Judith Resnik -- Challenger Scholarships
    To honor the memory of our alumna who perished in the space shuttle Challenger accident and to recognize the pioneering spirit and outstanding academic and personal achievement of students committed to study in engineering, science, information systems, or computer science, Carnegie Mellon offers the Judith Resnik -- Challenger Scholarships. These awards are presented without regard to a family's financial need and are renewable for four years of undergraduate education at Carnegie Mellon, provided students maintain outstanding academic performance. Winners will be notified in their letters of admission.
    The Judith Resnik -- Challenger Scholarships will cover half the cost of tuition.

    To be considered for the scholarship, you must:
  • be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
     
  • exhibit excellence in academic achievement
     
  • receive exemplary recommendations from teachers and counselors
     
  • enhance your school or community through personal involvement
     
  • demonstrate a strong sense of personal integrity
     
  • apply for undergraduate study in either the School of Computer Science, the Carnegie Institute of Technology, Mellon College of Science or Information Systems
     
  • not be a son/daughter of a Carnegie Mellon employee who is eligible for remission of tuition
  • Presidential Scholarships
    Presidential Scholarships are awarded to artistically and academically talented middle income students who qualify for little or no need-based financial aid. Unlike our other academic scholarships, you must apply for need-based financial aid to be considered. (This verifies that you are not eligible for significant financial assistance.)

    You must submit the 2205-06 FAFSA in order to be considered for the Presidential Scholarship. If you are awarded the Presidential Scholarship, you must submit all of the required Carnegie Mellon and Federal Student Aid forms and tax documents before the scholarship will be credited toward the student's account. Winner will be notified in their notification of financial aid.

    Professor Ko (now vice provost) took photos of all of us in his Introduction to Chemical Engineering class so he could learn our names and faces. He had a lot of office hours open to answer our questions, stayed late to help us work on projects and encouraged us to work in groups.
