Portfolio Review Options
The School of Art is interested in work that shows and applicant’s ideas, cultural awareness and ambition, as well as his/her technical skills. A willingness to experiment and engage in personal research should also be revealed through the portfolio. Pieces that show an applicant’s ability to work on a wide range of artistic concerns, in depth or in a sequence, are desirable. Because we are interested in students who are highly self-motivated, the portfolio should include as much work as possible done independently outside the classroom.
The School of Art faculty is just as interested in an applicant’s creative thinking skills as in his/her technical skills. We want to see whatever you have made that is personal, unique and unusual…that thing you have been working on that may be so crazy and interesting that you are not even sure it’s art…that project so ambitious and awkward that it could not have been made by anyone else but you.
The portfolio should be assembled to showcase your engagement with materials, ideas and contexts. The portfolio is only one part of the application, thus the score of the portfolio review is not disclosed to the applicant. Applicants will receive notification of the status of their overall application after all components have been evaluated and the admission decision has been made.
All portfolios, online or in person, are given the same consideration and reviewed by School of Art faculty.
